How Move2Earn is incentivizing people across the globe to be healthy

How Move2Earn is incentivizing people across the globe to be healthy

Exercise can prevent a broad spectrum of chronic conditions that are often fatal. So how is UPD8 (dHealth's move to earn app) incentivizing people across the globe to be healthy?

Exercise can prevent or attenuate a broad spectrum of chronic conditions that are often fatal, such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, and breast cancer.

Development of the previously listed diseases can be prevented by approximately 50%, or more—through regular exercise. When considering just the listed diseases—this translates to reducing global mortality through regular exercise by roughly 17,5%! This amounts to preventing 10.5 million deaths globally.

Prevention aside, according to WHO sources—just from physical inactivity it is estimated that 3.2 million individuals die globally making physical activity the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality.

Consequently, it can be concluded that lack of regular exercise is straining the global healthcare system, increasing mortality significantly, and significantly reducing the average quality of life.

The advent of blockchain technology has made previously impossible solutions—possible. This means that we finally have the perfect solution to the burning exercise issue, and the solution is called Move2Earn.

Let’s dive deep into the common unknowns related to exercise, as well as what dHealth has deployed to improve human lives—on a global scale.

Exercise myths and exercise facts

There is an unneeded debate in the fitness community, is it fitness, or is it dieting—that reduces weight?

After analyzing a broad range of studies, the conclusion is quite conclusive—dieting is the main factor in weight loss activity, whilst regular exercise helps with the process.

An interesting observation pops up from analyzing exercise-related data. Even though exercise has a smaller correlation to weight loss than dieting—regular exercise ensures individuals stay on their diet programs.

Weight loss, in cases of higher BMI, is significantly beneficial for health, which is why it is important to equip individuals across the globe with this information.

Furthermore, according to scientific studies—exercise prevents the occurrence of a multitude of cancers, and it also uplifts mood. In some cases, the effects of exercise are just as potent as antidepressant pills in treating moderate to severe depression

John Ratey, MD, an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, has famously said, “Exercise is the single best thing you can do for your brain in terms of mood, memory, and learning.” Exercise triggers the release of a protein called BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). Think of it as brain fertilizer. It boosts cognitive functions, sharpens memory, and even plays a pivotal role in resisting Alzheimer's.

Regular exercise has another great benefit which was uncovered by a study from Brigham Young University. This study found that people who exercise regularly have longer telomeres which are tiny caps on the ends of DNA strands.

Why does that matter?

Because longer telomeres often correlate with longer life. Think of them as the protective tips on your shoelaces; without them, the lace starts to fray, much like how our DNA deteriorates over time. Concisely put, regular exercise extends life, something we all hold dear.

Other benefits of exercise are quite extensive, and some from this extensive list are:

• improving skin health by promoting antioxidant effects

• stimulating the production of new blood vessels in the eyes
• potentially warding off age-related vision issues
• bolstering the immune system
• positive impact on nearly every system in our body

But how do the amazing effects of regular exercise relate to blockchain technology?

A new paradigm

Blockchain technology allows individuals to have a decentralized identity, which is essentially their crypto wallet—and it allows them to use this wallet to receive regular payouts for performing healthy activities. These healthy activities can truly be anything that gets an individual to move—from jogging, hiking, swimming, running, weight lifting, to walking and sports.

The solution dHealth is currently operating integrates with STRAVA as well as Fitbit, whereby all recorded exercise data on either app is rewarded. Rewards are distributed to the dHealth wallet. The incentivization program is called UPD8, and it is much more than a simple token reward mechanism.

Participating individuals receive ACTIV which will in the near future be exchangeable for DHP. The recipient of ACTIV tokens can then convert the DHP into USDT and fiat. UPD8 participants will also receive discounts on a myriad of exercise-related products such as protein powder and vitamin supplements.

The initial boosted exchange rate is set at 3 DHP for 1 ACTIV token. This boost is part of the program’s beta release, after the program leaves the beta phase—the exchange rate will return to the original 1 ACTIV - 1 DHP.

The decentralization factor of the UPD8 solution allows ease of implementation on a global scale, without deploying significant resources to maintain functionality during scaling. This means anyone can sign up immediately and benefit from this new paradigm.

At the current moment the UPD8 program operates on the dHealth’s layer1 blockchain, however, in the future—its functionality will be provided through the BNB chain. The first steps towards this migration have already been undertaken—with the bridging of the DHP token on BNB, and the consequential listing on PancakeSwap.

In other words, once the BNB migration has been completed, dHealth can theoretically onboard millions of users—immediately. This would, however, significantly strain the tokenomics of DHP which is why dHealth is actively looking for partnerships with states & patient groups. These organizations assist by acquiring DHP tokens and assigning it to a pool that is used for distribution of DHP to groups of exercising individuals selected by the organizations.

This keeps incentivization for exercising individuals at motivating levels. If that is not done so, the Move2Earn program does not work. Everyone must feel incentivized.

Truthfully, the dHealth treasury could never handle bearing the cost of incentivizing the entire global population to exercise daily, however, states and patient groups have an obligation to serve their constituents, and we will get there, step by step.

Bigger than Move2Earn

If we are to consider the most optimistic observations regarding exercise and if regular exercise became a norm for people across the globe—the number of hospital visits, and occurrence of diseases, would diminish significantly. This would undoubtedly disturb the status quo, if the healthcare industry were to remain the same—but it will not.

The massive reduction in demand can very elegantly be transitioned to new, previously unrealizable, opportunities.

U.S., Europe, and Australia produce a significant volume of high-quality, structured medical data due to their advanced healthcare systems and research infrastructures. A staggering 90% of the global recorded medical data available for further research—is created in these regions.

A patient registry, which dHealth already developed in partnership with Roche, changes the name of the game. With proper and planned implementation, the dHealth technology can significantly improve data quality and accessibility of real-life medical data in all other regions.

This could potentially trigger a renaissance in medical breakthroughs.

And even if that does not come to pass, the increase in efficiency of the global healthcare system due to blockchain implementation can likely offset any negative impacts to sudden health services demand contraction—as a result of Move2Earn successful global deployment.

For example, tracking healthcare products deliveries and applications can significantly reduce the lost-in-transit losses. A pilot project testing this concept has already proven it to be valid & beneficial. This pilot project was realized by dHealth in partnership with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, where supply-chain tracking systems are being developed to efficiently distribute limited rabies vaccines.

And it goes far beyond supply-chain tracking as the blockchain technology can revolutionize the healthcare industry on many different layers. All these new opportunities will inevitably become a  reality as a result of healthcare participants having access to efficient decentralized identities & data, digital smart contracts, and a decentralized ledger.

The future can only be theorized on, however, it is a solid assumption that once the global population gets a lot healthier, the focus will shift from medical intervention, and mitigating chronic conditions’ symptoms—to longevity.

Decentralized infrastructure and smart contracts will supercharge the next revolutionary era of longevity research and application. Longer and healthier lives are just within our grasp, but we have to reach out.

It is reasonable to conclude then that the result of implementing blockchain technology will be immensely transformative to the healthcare industry, and it will undoubtedly balloon it to new heights in many positive aspects, metrics, and indicators—regardless of the Move2Earn impact.
